Studio Policies & Guidelines
We put a great deal of care into every part of Gather, and we’re committed to creating a space that is clean, safe, and welcoming for everyone. We work closely with our community and value shared responsibility in keeping the studio running smoothly. If you have questions or concerns, feel free to ask one of our team members, and this page is a helpful place to start. You’ll also find a form at the bottom of the page where you can share feedback or suggestions—we’d love to hear from you.
Studio Policies & Guidelines
1. Purpose & Agreement
These policies exist to create a safe, respectful, and productive environment for all students, members, and visitors. By participating in classes, open studio sessions, workshops, or membership access, you agree to abide by these guidelines.
2. Studio Access & Use
Studio access is limited to registered students, active members, and authorized guests.
All users must sign a Studio Waiver/Use Agreement before working independently.
Only students or members may use kilns, wheels, tools, and studio equipment unless otherwise authorized.
3. Respect for Community
Treat everyone in the studio with courtesy and respect. Disruptive behavior, harassment, or discrimination will not be tolerated. Studios may reserve the right to remove individuals whose behavior negatively affects the studio environment.
Do not handle others’ work without permission. If you accidentally damage another’s piece, leave a note or inform staff.
4. Safety & Conduct
Follow all safety protocols and instructions from instructors or studio staff.
Do not operate tools or equipment you have not been trained to use.
Wheels, kilns, and other heavy equipment may only be used by individuals with demonstrated competency or under supervision.
Wear closed-toe shoes and tie back long hair when appropriate.
5. Cleaning & Studio Care
Everyone must clean up after themselves — this includes wiping tables, wheels, tools, and disposing of clay scraps properly.
Do not allow clay or glaze to enter bathroom sinks. Clean up wet clay with wet sponges only.
Keep aisles and exit paths clear at all times.
6. Materials & Tools
Clay and glazes must be purchased from the studio or approved in advance by staff. Outside materials may require approval to ensure they are safe and compatible with studio firing.
Communal tools should be cleaned and returned to their designated places after use.
Personal tools may be stored on assigned shelves; label all personal items clearly.
7. Kiln & Firing Policies
Kiln usage is restricted to authorized pieces only. Users may not load or unload kilns without staff permission.
Work must meet studio criteria to be fired (e.g., dryness, no metal additions, responsible application of runnier glazes, proper cleaning of bottoms).
Firing fees, schedules, and deadlines are posted and must be followed.
Pieces not picked up within the specified storage period (e.g., 6–12 weeks) may be recycled or discarded.
8. Open Studio Etiquette
Please reserve for open studio sessions as required.
Respect posted open studio hours; do not stay past closing time.
During open studio, be mindful of others’ space and work.
9. Replacement & Damage Fees
Users may be responsible for the cost of repair or replacement if equipment or studio property is damaged through misuse or negligence.
10. Liability & Risk
Ceramics involves risks (e.g., injury, dust exposure, breakage). By using the studio, you accept responsibility for your own safety and release the studio from liability for personal injury or property damage. Studio
