GISELLE REITER - Ceramicist
Giselle Reiter is a ceramicist whose work reflects a thoughtful balance between the calm rhythms of her Peruvian heritage and the vibrant energy of New York. These influences come together in the forms she creates on the wheel, where movement and stillness coexist.
Born and raised in Lima, Peru, Giselle Reiter has called New York City home for over 35 years. She began her artistic journey as a sculptor and, over time, developed a deep love for creating functional work in clay and porcelain.
Her work draws inspiration from the colors and light of Lima, the rhythm of the ocean, and the constant movement of New York City—blending a sense of stillness and motion in pieces she creates. She is particularly interested in exploring and combining wheel-throwing techniques, with a focus on texture, form, and surfaces that interact with light—catching it, reflecting it, and evolving through movement and use.
As a teacher, Giselle emphasizes building strong technical foundations within a warm and relaxed environment. Her classes are supportive, gently playful, and designed to help each student gain confidence, experiment freely, and develop their own creative voice. She is admired in her community for her expertise and generosity, sharing her knowledge through teaching.
